MANAGEMENT CONSULTING
Water Management Plans

Australian Landscape Management provides planning support to help you ensure that water used for irrigation is not wasted and is used in an environmentally responsible way.

We can help you to:

  • Understand best practice in water management and how well you are currently managing water use through our Water Management Audit©.
  • Document where water is being used in your landscapes and what your vegetation peformance objectives are from applying water
  • Profile sites using where irrigation is applied to ensure water supply characteristics, soil conditions and plant root depths are accurately recorded
  • Develop water budgets and strategies to schedule and control water application
  • Evaluate irrigation systems to determine current performance and to design ongoing testing and monitoring programs
  • Establish maintenance and reporting systems to measure key indicators of irrigation efficiency
  • Train your staff in efficient operation of quick coupler, manual valve and automatic irrigation systems.

Have you ever considered that ...

Water management plans will allow you to consider relevant issues and incorporate them into documented and defensible decision making

Potable water supplies are limited and environmental, horticultural, economic, personnel and community issues must be considered

Achieve functional and aesthtic objectives, avoid wastage, maximise value and achieve best practice in water use.

The benefits of effective water management include ...

Effective drought response

  • Ensure irrigation restrictions are observed by revising system shceules and controls
  • Prioritise irrigation requirements to ensure water is only used where required
  • Prepare a defensible case for restriction exemption if necessary

Efficient water use

  • Ensure the amount of water applied and timing is appropriate to the plant performance required and weather conditions
  • Apply water uniformly to the root zone without runoff, loss to depth or non-target application

Systematic planning and reporting

  • Provide a documented basis for decisions about where to irrigate and how
  • Demonstrate responsible and efficient water use

Performance measurement

  • Develop and monitor performance indicators that assist in optimising water application, ensuring uniformity and re-filling soil water reserves to pre-determined levels.

We can help you to provide planned, efficient and environmentally-friendly water use with existing systems, controllers and personnel.

The ALM water management process

Our water management services provide comprehensive support in using water effectively, efficiently and sustainably.

Irrigated Site Mapping

We can map irrigated sites using differential GPS and GIS/CAD to provide accurate plans showing irrigation system location and configuration. Starting with your open space system and then focussing on each irrigated site we can help you to understand and communicate the 'big picture' view of water use.

Irrigated Site Profile

We can prepare accurate and cost-effective profiles of irrigated sites to ensure that irrigation is matched to:
  • Water supply characteristics
  • Plant performance requirements
  • Soil types and root depths

Water Budgeter© software

Our 'Water Budgeter©' software enables quick and accurate preparation of water budgets for each irrigated site. The database records each water budget for reference and updating as seasons change.

Economic Analysis

We can analyse investment decisions in water management. This includes manual system control logistics, decentralised control and centralised controllers.

System Evaluation

We can analyse the performance of existing systems through can testing to determine the distribution uniformity coefficient (DU) and minimise non-target water application.

Irrigation Control Strategies

We can help plan irrigation scheduling and control processes to suit your systems and resources. This includes economic analysis and identification of training and resource needs.

Performance Measurement

We can develop a series of key performance measures (linked to corporate or departmental scorecards) to ensure that you understand the status of your water management at all times.

Service pricing

Services can be quoted on a fixed price or fee for service basis.

Additional services include ...

Water Quality Monitoring

Manage risks associated with water bodies service, identify potential threats or concerns, assign a risk rating and providerecommendations for operational and strategic actions to optimise water quality.

Parks Maintenance Management System (PMMS ©)

A fully integrated maintenance management system based on MS Access. Program work, incorporate audits, record completed work, report on all activities.

SHARP Maintenance ©

Focus on key aspects of maintenance to manage risk, present landscapes attractively for use, provide customer service and integrate with PMMS ©.

Life Cycle Management Plans

Evaluate construction, maintenance, re-capitalisation, and replacement costs and their optimal timing.

Risk Assessment & Control Plans

Profile risks in open space areas, select appropriate controls and integrate them with maintenance programs.

Operations Management

Forecast demand for services and plan capacity accordingly. Optimise resource use using appropriate maintenance strategies and types.
