Water Management: The Water Budgeter Calculator

Australian Landscape Management in conjunction with Geoff Connellan from the Centre for Urban Horticulture at Melbourne University have developed a tool for calculating irrigation requirements. The database tool uses conventional approaches and understanding of plant performance requirements and tolerances, soil moisture reservoirs, crop factors and seasonal average or measured evapotranspiration data to calculate required irrigation depths and frequencies. This tool provides a foundation for planning and controlling irrigation application in the context of plant performance objectives.

A facility is also included to determine tree water requirements using canopy leaf index.

Irrigation schedules can be stored for individual sites and periods. A facility is available to use rainfall data and measure performance against an index.

Local knowledge of plant performance and determination of appropriate crop factors for commonly used vegetation can be incorporated.

Australian Landscape Management provide the tool as part of our best practice water management evaluation process.

Location: this tool has wide application
