ALM Note: A review of Greening of Broadmeadows 14 years on

Recently I was invited to give a presentation to a group of landcare groups from the Shire of Campaspe. This provided the catalyst to revisit some former Greening of Broadmeadows(now Hume) sites and take some slides of the work, up to 14 years on.
At the beginning of my career in environmental horticulture, (as a recent fresh faced graduate from Burnley), I was the project manager for the Greening of Broadmeadows project in 1989. This project commenced in a very rugged and at times hostile environment with the simple aim of improving the municipality and fostering local pride.

Revisiting this work was a very satisfying experience, as, not only had the work of those friends groups flourished, but the groups are continuing to function and continue to contribute to these landscapes.

The continuation of the groups is also a tribute to many other people who have been involved in the Greening of Broadmeadows(and more recently Hume). The sophisication and evolution of this program is evident in the diversity and skills of the current staff. At an overarching level, the commitment of Councillors of both Broadmeadows and Hume has been nothing short of amazing. The program continues to maintain a high profile in the organisation's corporate strategy.
