ALM Note: Water Restriction Trigger Points, Level 2 still possible.
Currently Melbourne's water storages are at around 716.4 gigalitres, the July trigger point for level 2 restrictions is 715 gigalitres.
This time last year storages held over 890 gigalitres.
Melbourne is currently consuming around 1 gigalitre per day.
June rainfall was around 35mm or about 30% below average.
Stage 2 restrictions will prevent irrigation of sportsturf and this is likely to have a significant effect on the quality of turf playing surfaces.
The Bureau of Meteorology believes that there is a less than 50% chance of exceeding the median ranfall in Victoria during the July – September period. http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/ahead/rain.vic.shtml
